What it is

The Key Stage 2 & 3 design, rewritten for American classrooms: 124 topics in eight sections, written for Grades 3 to 8 in US spelling, vocabulary and punctuation — periods and exclamation points, quotation marks with the comma inside, the serial comma, independent and dependent clauses, simple, compound, complex and compound-complex sentences, fragments and run-ons, pronoun case, correlative conjunctions, Greek and Latin roots, sight words, vowel teams, silent e and General American pronunciation. Every topic has a plain-English definition, three right examples with the key word marked, one wrong example with a friendly explanation, and a small grammar joke; 620 examples in all, with a recurring cast of fictional characters and no real people or brands.

• Learning path in five stages that follow the English Language Arts curriculum — Reading & Phonics, Narrative Writing, Poetry, Informational Writing, and Grammar, Usage & Mechanics — each checking off as topics are read.
• Graded exercises: one for each stage, ten questions built fresh from its topics, graded on the spot with the correct answer and the reason.
• Todo list and retests: every topic answered wrongly goes on a Todo list to reread, and the exercise comes back — in a few weeks if it went well, in a couple of days if it did not.
• Exercise record with first, latest and best score for each stage and a weakest-first topic breakdown, savable to a file.
• Spelling test of 996 words in American spelling, sorted into Grades 3-5 and Grades 6-8 lists, each with a sentence and a meaning. Spot the correct spelling, then type it; autocorrect is switched off.
